Dalmatians are a very popular dog breed and owe much of its popularity to the mass media. It is a sad fact that the Dalmatian breed turned out to be a victim of its own popularity. Overcrowding often happens due to the inability of many breeders to find homes for their Dalmatian puppies.

The decision to breed Dalmatians should be made only after serious consideration. Are you sure that your dogs are excellent representatives of the breed? Contact an experienced breeder and exhibitor of Dalmatians in order to get qualified help in evaluating your dog. All dogs have strong points and weaknesses and this is something you must be well aware of from the very beginning.
Dalmatians that are meant for breeding should be of excellent health and temperament. BAER testing for hearing, OFA or PennHIP certification for the hip dysplasia, CERF clearance for eye problems and other important tests should be done to ensure the Dalmatian is healthy. If your dog has health problems or is shy or aggressive toward other dogs or strangers, it must not be bred.
If you know the ropes of breeding techniques and possess comprehensive information on your dog's ancestors, you may consider breeding. However, expect that you will have to invest a lot of money before you can actually enjoy any income. Breeding is not for people who are interested in quick cash. It takes responsibility throughout their entire life. If you feel that you will make a responsible breeder, the answer on the question whether to breed Dalmatians is yes.
