Dalmatian Breeders
Dalmatian Breeders have been working continuously to improve the dog’s genetic potential, since Dalmatians are often affected by deafness, skin allergies and urinary tract problems. Dalmatians are increasingly popular around the globe for various reasons, including their popularization through the renowned Walt Disney cartoon. In fact, these dogs are a little harder to handle than many people think.
The Dalmatian breed is renowned for its long-inherited stamina, intelligence and eagerness to work. Although these dogs are no longer intended for hard work, they are still apt to bear significant workloads and cannot do without daily rigorous exercise. Dalmatians are great companion dogs, and it takes a lot of knowledge and experience with dogs to properly train and socialize a Dalmatian. Dalmatians are fast-growing and dashing dogs, and Dalmatian breeders do not usually recommend them for families with toddlers.
Dalmatians require daily walking and jogging. This is no dog to be locked inside a house for long hours. Dalmatians thrive on physical activity and interaction. Sometimes, Dalmatians require more than two hours of exercise on a daily basis, and they may get depressed unless they have a chance to blow off a little steam with their loved ones. For this reason, Dalmatian Breeders do not usually recommend this dog for sedentary people.
Dalmatians stand 20-24 inches high at the shoulder, and weigh around 55 lbs. These dogs are renowned for their unique coloring – they have random, usually black or liver spots on a white background. There are also species featuring dark blue, lemon, sable and brindle spots. Dalmatian Breeders consider solid white coat as a highly undesirable trait. Puppies are born white, and spots form as dogs mature. Dalmatians have a lean yet sturdy body built, as they are naturally athletic and enduring.
The average life span of Dalmatians is 10-12 years. These dogs are prone to a number of hereditary diseases. About 10 per cent of puppies are born deaf. Mature Dalmatians often develop urinary tract problems, often resulting in kidney stones. This is usually extremely painful for dogs, so Dalmatians must be screened for urinary tract disorders throughout lifetime. Experienced Dalmatian Breeders recommend low protein diet for Dalmatian Puppies, which reduces the risk of urinary stones.
