Dalmatian Breeder

If you would like to purchase a high quality Dalmatian puppy, please, take your time and pick out a reputable and qualified Dalmatian Breeder. Dalmatians are susceptible to a number of serious genetic diseases, so only a good breeder can guarantee that you will not be disappointed when your dog grows up. Dalmatians have a very specific temperament, and it takes quite a bit of experience to make a decent Dalmatian owner.

Dalmatians are naturally alert, active and intelligent dogs. Initially, they were bred to jog alongside with horse-drawn carriages or horseback riders, which required tremendous endurance and elegance. The Dalmatian of today has retained his former physical fitness, and he is very demanding in terms of physical activity. Dalmatians require daily rigorous exercise, and they appreciate space. These dogs do okay indoors, providing there is a sufficient amount of space in the house, and there must be at least an average-size yard in front of the house. Dalmatian Breeders do not recommend this dog for people who are not very active by nature.

Dalmatians are naturally alert, so they make superb watchdogs. They can be quite suspicious of strangers and other dogs. Dalmatian Breeders insist on thorough socialization for these dogs, because otherwise they often develop serious behavior problems. These dogs are usually good with children, but they are not recommended for families with small children, because Dalmatians are very active and hence there is a risk of traumas for kids.

Dalmatians are elegant and sturdy dogs. Their unique coloration is very attractive – they have white coats with numerous spots of black, brown, sable, lemon, dark gray, blue, etc. all over the body. Dalmatians have a very intelligent facial expression. They have brown, blue or amber eyes, soft hanging ears. Puppies are born white, and spots appear later. Dalmatian Breeders show preference for dogs with clearly defined and well distributed spots. Solid white color is considered to be a fault.

Unfortunately, the Dalmatian breed is exposed to some serious health problems. About 10-12 percent of puppies are born deaf. Deafness can hamper training and socialization, so deaf Dalmatians often become disobedient and aggressive. Dalmatians are also prone to kidney failure. Not infrequently, they develop urinary tract stones, which often have to be removed surgically. On the average, Dalmatians live 10-12 years. When choosing a puppy, please, make sure that the Dalmatian Breeder you are dealing with has had his or her puppies BAER-tested for deafness.
